At this session, attendees will learn the preparation and seam sewing techniques when using Wilton carpet - including a short sewing demo.

Instructor, PJ Arthur, founder of NFIC, the Natural Fiber Installers Certification, started in the trade in 1964 as apprentice when woven and tufted carpet was the only product on the market. NFIC was established in 2006 to train and certify installers in woven carpet techniques. While synthetics have come and gone, woven and tufted wools haven't changed their integrity in over 100 years.

Sloan Bailey is a trial attorney experienced in negotiating construction project disputes. His practice includes construction and complex business litigation for which he has provided general counseling and advice on contract negotiations for both public works and privately funded projects. Sloan has extensive experience in construction litigation ranging from contractor delay and impact claims, insurance coverage, bid protests, lien disputes, contract breaches, defective work, defective design, changed conditions, worksite catastrophes, stop notices, and late or deficient payment. Sloan has served as trial counsel and acting litigation counsel for parties to bench and jury trials, administrative proceedings, arbitrations, and mediations in state and federal courts.

Craig Morris joined ARDEX Americas in 2009 as the ARDEX Technical Claims Administrator after having spent the prior 25 years becoming an expert in the specification, installation, maintenance and repair of virtually every type of floor covering. Kathy Case is a third generation flooring professional. With over 45 years in commercial construction, she has filled many roles - estimating, installation, project management, sales and executive management. Currently, Kathy's focus is estimating - working with technology-based companies to develop estimating solutions for the industry. Quantify North America Inc. supports flooring industry estimating departments, customizing their systems with technology to improve the accuracy and ease of the estimating process. Kathy also serves on the FCICA Education Committee.

Anastasia Adams is the National Estimating Manager for Diverzify. An army veteran, Anastasia has over 12 years in the construction industry. She has held positions in the industry as both a designer and estimator. She is the author of Diverzify Estimating Training Manual, a comprehensive 170-page instructional manual and a 33-page Flooring Glossary guide. Complementing these materials, Anastasia built the accompanying estimating website and created RFI forms for all Diverzify brands. In her current position, she also serves as the Measure Square and Estimating Trainer. Diverzify is the nation’s most comprehensive commercial flooring and facility services provider. It is a first-of-its-kind resource that unifies preeminent experts, services and resources in a way that has never been done before.

The course is ideal for installers, estimators and other construction professionals new to blueprint reading or seeking to refresh their foundational skills. This session walks us through why the carpet backing makes a difference. The adhesive, seam tape and installation method will vary with different backings and construction of product. This session helps explain why you need to be aware of what is getting installed, current manufacture carpet backings and installation guidelines for each.
Jerry Miller, CEO, Miller’s Flooring Consultants, Inc. has been in the flooring industry since 1969 working in installation, inspection, problem solving and training. He is a CFI Master II, Senior Certifier, Trainer, Past Certification Committee Chairman has served on the CFI Board of Directors. For the last 20 years he has been the trouble shooter for the major mills specializing in job stops, job starts, training, certification and inspecting.
