Leslie Del Pozo started her career in the flooring industry 27 years ago as a graphic designer at QEP Co., Inc. Leslie gradually worked her way through various marketing positions at QEP, learning more and more about flooring installation. Little did she know this would lead to a passion for supporting the flooring installation community. Evan Lauridsen is a second-generation flooring industry veteran who has served over 50 years in positions as a flooring installer, installation manager, and lastly a retail flooring store owner and manager before selling his flooring store in 1996 to a competitor. Since that time Evan changed his career focus to working in technical services and claims for some of the largest flooring and sundry manufacturers in the world. He is a past and present instructor of inspection for a number of schools and associations and was instrumental in helping to start inspection certification and training in various hard surface disciplines some 25 years ago. Evan has also served on a number of flooring industry boards and committees. After his semi-retirement from a major flooring manufacturer in technical support in 2023 he and his late wife Dawn formed Lauridsen Consultancy Group which provides consulting, inspection and training services to the industry.

The Science of Adhesive Bonding for Luxury Vinyl Tile * Thursday, September 18 / 3:00 - 4:00 PM

During the course of this presentation you will learn about the nature of LVT and what dimensionally stable means in the real world. We will also discuss the strengths and limitations of pressure sensitive adhesives used to install LVT and how changes in installation method can improve overall performance values. Lastly we will discuss an important aspect of acrylic polymers called the Glass Transition Temperature and how changes in this value effect performance in peel and shear values as well as with an adhesives ability to resist creep under stress. Terminology such as pressure sensitive, transitional pressure sensitive, firm set and hard set will be discussed - how they relate to achieving an LVT installation that remains stable and gap/lip free.
Jeffrey Johnson is the FCIS Business and Marketing Manager for MAPEI’s Floor Covering Installation Systems product assortment. He has more than 40 years of experience in floor-covering installation product development and marketing. With practical experience in construction and as an adhesive bench chemist, Jeff has a unique perspective on the materials used in the flooring installation industry. As a bench chemist, he formulated water based and reactive type adhesives. In his current position, Jeff drives sales growth, product innovation and education for floor covering installation products involved with the carpet, resilient and wood flooring installation market segments.
